A Little Bolder

After just one day of having this blog, and after reconnecting with Brene Brown I am sharing more with you. Happy Sunday, here’s a poem that I wrote.

Soft

Never date a hedonist

or at least never partner your life with theirs

Their comfort is paramount and abhors

hard conversations necessary for partnership

Oh the parties!

Oh the sex!

Oh the drugs!

Oh the outrageous conversation!

But when those things open doors to places you can’t navigate alone

it’s no longer anything goes.

The things you need are not fun, are not pleasurable

This is a pleasure palace that is what we do here.

No time for your nonsense.

No space for your pain

The flip side though, your comfort for their hard places is of course welcome

Your gentle handling of sore spots and ugly behavior

Feel so good.

Oh please don’t stop, don’t stop!

Being seen by you feels good

Being touched by you feels so good

Being heard by you bliss

Being understood divine

They might teach you how to love yourself though

… then you will love yourself enough to leave

Doodle of the Day #1

This blog/site is hopefully the beginning of something much bigger, but at first especially, this is one of the things I want to do. Post a doodle here every day. All the doodles are on dollar store index cards, all created with very common art supplies, colored pencils, school markers, etc.

The purpose of this is one to encourage me to make something tangible. (Since I started the drawing project last month I gave away 4 doodles as gifts.) Another gift of this project so far is embracing bravery. These doodles give me a chance to throw rules out the window, be brave, and be bold enough to share.

I hope you find them interesting. (Even I don’t like some of them.)

Sauce Saturday Introduction

All information exists and is understood through context. The sources we root our ideas in have an impact on the directions of our conversations and the meanings behind them. If we do not discuss them they become subtext and invisible. While it is not essential to eliminate all subtext from communication, it is valuable to discuss our sources from time to time.

This (hopefully weekly) feature of BTiOLW, will give me a chance to share my sources, and inspirations, also known in some internet circles as “The Sauce”, giving relative context to the topics discussed and lead to better nuance and mutual understanding.

The first “Sauce” I would like to feature is the work of Brene Brown, especially the book, Daring Greatly. Which I do not remember specifics about but have absorbed a lot of the ideas presented in her work and was inspired by, Daring Greatly, in particular to start this blog and be more vulnerable and out there. I just rewatched her TED talk, “The Power of Vulnerability“. It was just as powerful as the last time I watched it. She has such an authenticity of spirit, that is essential to encouraging others to be introspective about their lives.

Meanwhile I am taking the advice and not making a perfect post. I’m making a good enough post. Her work and ideas have an influence on the way I think and write, I am acknowledging that here, both in gratitude and for context into the future.
